Case: Cummins generator

Performance analysis of Sulnox ® Eco Diesel Conditioner in a Cummins Generator 12% Fuel Savings Achieved

Summary

This report focuses on the data collection and processing of performance data when we use Sulnox Group plc’s Sulnox Eco™ Diesel Conditioner Specifically its pilot run was chosen to be executed on the generator 44. This is a newly acquired Cummins Power generator model C 220 D 5 E (220 kVA 176 kW The choice of the particular generator was based on its almost un interrupted function under the same load.

Hourly consumption data collected for untreated fuel as well as once fuel treated with SulNOx.

Economic and Technical Analysis of the Data

In Table 1, the quantities of fuel in the power pack/generator are recorded either without Sulnox or with Sulnox.

At this point, it is useful to underline and highlight the hourly consumption of the power pack/generator under full load (100%) which is, according to the manufacturer, 45.6 litres per hour.

For the case A (2,568 litres), the average fuel consumption reached 41.5 litres/h and for the case B, the average fuel consumption achieved was only 36.5 litres/h.

Also, it is worth underlining and highlighting that for the same quantity of fuel (2,568 litres –
case A and 2,566 litres – case B) the power pack/generator worked for more hours in case B (70
hours) than it worked in case A (62 hours).

The particular fuel quantity consumed in case B was treated with a total quantity of 1,25 litres
Sulnox®. The acquisition cost of Sulnox 41.60 €/litre (in the package container of 5 lit) and 33.86
€/litre (in the package container of 200 litres).

Regarding and examining the package container of the cheapest price (200 litres), we realize that
the total cost of Sulnox® consumed is:
33.86 €/lit * 1.25 lit = 42.32 €.

Finally, given the economy of the 8 hours of function of the generator using Sulnox® (case B) in
conjunction to case A and considering the average fuel consumption in 36.5 litre/h, then we can
accept that:

36.5 lit/h * 8 h = 292 litres of fuel are saved

Given that the average acquisition cost of the fuel is 1 €/litre, then in this case and subtracting
the acquisition cost of Sulnox, then we save about 250 € which would equate to fuel savings of
approximately 44,000 € per year if the generator worked 24/7.

Fuel savings were significant — amounting to up to €44,000 per year in continuous 24/7 operations.

SulNOx reduces emissions and creates fuel efficiencies through unique, game-changing fuel conditioners.
